Get Ready for Open Season Enrollment

With Open Season starting Monday, November 8, 2021, it's time to begin planning for the 2022 benefit period and your enrollment in FSAFEDS. Remember, enrollment in FSAFEDS is voluntary, and you must actively enroll each year; participation does not automatically continue from year to year.

Re-enrollment is especially important this year since the Consolidated Appropriations Act allows you to carry over any remaining balance in your HCFSA or LEX HCFSA from 2021 – but only if you re-enroll.

Getting Ready

Take a few moments to review your 2021 healthcare or child/elder daycare expenses. Simply look at your claims history at www.FSAFEDS.com. Then, estimate how much you'll need during the 2022 benefit period. Use our online savings calculators to determine your election.

Less Risk

Remember, the Health Care FSA (HCFSA) allows you to carry over up to $550 of unused funds into 2023 when you re-enroll and the Dependent Care FSA allows an extra 2 ½ months to spend your balance.

Explore Your Options

It's also a great time to consider all your FSA options and explore thousands of eligible expenses.

Notable recent additions to eligible expense include over-the-counter medicines and drugs (without a prescription), menstrual care items and personal protective equipment, such as face masks and hand sanitizing wipes (with 60%+ alcohol base).

Keep in mind, Open Season is also the only time you can make changes to your FSA, unless you've had a qualifying life event (PDF). Understand all the ways to use your FSA and maximize your savings in 2022!

Decide the Best Reimbursement Option

If you're enrolling in a Health Care FSA, consider which reimbursement option is best suited for you: auto reimbursement or the pick and process option. You'll be asked to choose one during the enrollment process, if your OPM insurance plan participates.
